Recently on NPR’s “All Things Considered” a story ran about how food and clothing size labels affect what we eat and wear. For example, a large soda now is 6x the size the same large soda was 60 years ago. A woman’s size 8 dress in the 1950’s, became a size 4 in the 1970’s, and a 0 in 2006 (this is called vanity sizing). It was found that vanity sizing improved people’s body image.

This has led me to think about how the Church is into vanity sizing. How there is more concern about about improving image than following Jesus and his example of how to live in the world.

What do you think, what are your experiences?
